Award for Toughest Director
In 2015, Simon Thussbas received the Toughest Director (DoP) award at the Mountainfilm International in Innsbruck. While the athletes slept in tents, Simon had to dig himself a snow cave as there were no tents left. His socks were wet, making the experience quite uncomfortable. Despite these harsh conditions, his dedication and resilience shone through, earning him the prestigious award. Simon’s ability to endure and adapt in such challenging circumstances highlighted his exceptional skills and determination, leaving a lasting impression on the industry and his peers.
Necessary or unnecessary equipment
We had no idea what to expect on the uninhabited island of Onekotan. We were nearly 400 km away from the nearest civilization, surrounded by the vast sea. The isolation added to the uncertainty, making every step an adventure. The remote and wild environment demanded self-reliance and adaptability from our team. Despite the challenges, the experience was uniquely thrilling, pushing us to our limits and providing a deep sense of exploration and discovery.
